In attendance: Fire Chief John Alcaidinho, Chairman Dennis Moran, Vice Chairman Mike Pivero, Joe Lingel, Trisha McCarthy, Jim Ryan and Jim White. Barbara White transcribed he minutes.
Guest: Kelly Davis, from Port One Architects.
This meeting was held at the Main Fire Station. Chairman Moran called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm.
Approval of Minutes
Mr. Moran asked for a Motion to approve the December 9, 2015 and January 4, 2016 minutes. Mr. Lingel Moved to approve both the December 9 and January 4 minutes; Mrs. McCarthy seconded; unanimous.
Review Resident Presentation & Information Brochure
Mr. Davis showed the group an example of a tri-fold brochure that would include the pertinent information for the residents regarding why a new firehouse is necessary. Bond rates are low at the present time and the approximate tax impact per household would be included..
The group spent most of the meeting time identifying which pieces of information would need to go into the brochure. They wanted the residents to have a clear picture of why a new station was necessary and what needs it would satisfy.
The Committee also discussed how to get this information out to the residents in the most efficient way. Items discussed were: a blurb for social media; putting it on the Town cable and website; a newspaper article (Mrs. White will find out how to go about making sure it got into the paper when the Committee needed it there); inserts in the Carriage Towne News; door-to-door delivery of the brochure; and mailing of the brochure. Various members of the Committee offered to underwrite the costs of the brochure: paper (Mrs. McCarthy), printing (Mr. Lingel), and postage (Mr. Ryan) if the Selectmen cannot fund this.
There was a previous slide show which the Committee thought would be good information to place on the website and on the Town cable. Mrs. McCarthy will send the slide show to Chief Alcaidinho and the Selectmen's Office for the website and cable.
Also presentation boards will be posted at the Town Hall, the Fire Station, the library, the school and at the meetings with the brochure as a handout.
The members will brainstorm and put together a list of questions the residents might ask at the meetings and review at their next meeting on January 11. This meeting is at the Town Hall.
The Committee has discussion regarding who would present the information at the Public Hearing on the 18th and at the Deliberative on the 30th.
Adjourn
The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara White
