· Introduction of Guests: Recreation Chairperson Annie Collyer, Selectman Matt Burrill, and Selectmen Office Manager Mary Winglass
Conservation agreed to go out of order from Agenda and welcome the guests regarding Earth Day. Conservation has planned to have Earth Day on 4/18/15. Road side pick up will be coordinated with the Road Agent. The Transfer Station Manager has already been notified.
Mary Winglass discussed what is happening at Greenie Park on April 18th, 2015. Newton Baseball is the one that actually runs the clean up at Greenie. Annie Collyer discussed trail signs the High School is making for maps of trails; Greenie Park, Old Lower Road, Peanut Trail, Marshall House. Conservation Commission was very excited about the signs, however cautioned the recreation commission that certain properties come under the jurisdiction of the Conservation Commission to protect the Natural Resources and Habitat, not necessarily to create a trail.
Earth Day activities will be coordinated and will take place on 4/18/15. Recreation Commission and Conservation Commission will each handle their portion of the day. Matt Burrill will assist in making a flyer for this event with the help of all. Discussion regarding a program of “adopt a road”. Also will try to order more Earth Day bags. Conservation Commission also agreed to a rain date of 4/25/15 for Earth Day. Maybe have Audubon Society see if we can get trees or something to give to people that would like to help. Children must be supervised by adults.
Selectman Burrill will be the contact for Baseball, Annie Collyer is contacting Angela McBay, Trisha McCarthy will contact the Positive Promotions Boy Scouts & Dean Mace.. Sandy will go on web site and see what we can come up with for give aways to participants for Earth Day. Will also put an article in Carriage Town and ask the Newton Web Master to post it and ask the Cable Committee if they can do something as well.
We will contact UNH co-op extension… find out if we can get seedlings from them. Determine the location to give out.
