November 20, 2014 Conservation Commission Minutes

 NEWTON CONSERVATION COMMISSION

DATE: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2014
TIME: 7:30

LOCATION: NEWTON TOWN HALL, 2 TOWN HALL ROAD
Rear of Building

Minutes

Call to Order, Roll Call Vote

Present:  Chairman Peter Mears, Vice Chair Nancy Slombo, Sandy Estabrook, Jaclyn Heffner and Trisha McCarthy
Open meeting at 7:31pm

Discussed budget:  The Commission has tried to save the town money by doing our own work rather than hiring someone.  All members of conservation have done clean up on trails throughout the year in addition to working on Earth Day.  The Slombo’s have done mowing on the town property after providing an Insurance Binder to the Selectmen’s office (rather than hiring someone to do it), again saving money for the town.  Whenever possible the commission works on property individually or as a team.  The commission took turns doing minutes when the secretary was unavailable, until 4/17/14 when the commission hired Trisha to do it.  Trisha uses her own computer because the commission’s computer was turned in to the new IT department and it was never replaced.
