Conservation Commission Minutes for November 15, 2012

Attendance:  Peter Mears, Chairperson
                         Nancy Slombo, Vice Chairperson
                         Sheila Bergeron
                     Sandra Estabrook

        Peter called the meeting to order at 7:40 pm

Old Business

2013 Proposed Budget
Peter motioned to keep the budget at $3,750 – same as 2012. Sandy seconded. All in favor.

Correspondence:

  • Notice of Intent to Cut – Map 13 Lot 2-15   Question as to why anticipated dates of cut not filled in on notice
  • NH Association of Conservation Commissions – List of member services and invoice for annual membership dues  $265.  Peter motioned to renew Newton Con Com membership for $265.  Nancy seconded.  All in favor.
  • USDA  Natural Resources Conservation Service – letter regarding technical and financial assistance available to help with problems related to recent storms, ie: debris in stream channels, restoring vegetation, stabilizing eroded stream banks and purchasing floodplain easements.  Newton Conservation Commission (NCC) members present are not aware of any issues at this time.
New Business
  • NCC membership.  We are in need of attending members to ensure we can have a quorum at meetings.  Peter motioned to put a notice on Newton Cable channel and in newspaper, Carriage Towne News, letting residents know we have openings for new Commission members, meeting times (1st and 3rd Thursdays, 7:30pm) and Town Hall ph. # to call and leave message if interested. Sheila seconded.  All in favor.
Newton Conservation Commission – minutes 11/15/12

  • Trapping Permit.  Nancy motioned to issue Peter Mears a permit for trapping on Town property to manage beaver problems.  Sandy seconded.  All in favor.
  • Trail mapping and info.   Sheila and Sandy are working on a handout that can be given to residents interested in town trails.
