Conservation Commission Draft Minutes for August 30, 2007
Unscheduled Public Meeting

Attending were:
Trisha McCarthy, Peter Mears, Pat Wonson, Nancy Slombo,  Tim Brennan
Guest: Selectman Bob Donovan

Trisha McCarthy called the meeting to order at 7:40pm


New Business:  
1.  The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the Family Fall Fair, an upcoming annual event coordinated by Newton Recreation Commission, at Greenie Park. The event is scheduled for September 22, 2007 from 9:00am-3:00pm.

Conservation will be responsible for a timed bike race around the field. The race will be divided into three age groups.
Suggestion of prizes.  1st Place- $15.00 Gift Certificate, T-shirt
                        2nd Place- $10.00 Gift Certificate, T-shirt
                        3rd Place-  $5.00 Gift Certificate, T-shirt
Nancy motioned to purchase three $15.00, three $10.00, and three $5.00 Gift Certificates from Carriage Town Bike Shop in Kingston, NH.
Peter Seconded. All in Favor.

Other Business:

1.  Pat Wonson mentioned the importance of posting signs, recognizing the Conservation Land in town. Trisha asked members to think about what type of signs should be purchased. Trisha will look into the cost of purchasing such signs.

2. Peter made a motion to purchase four Safety Walk Vests, at $4.00 per vest. Nancy Seconded. All in Favor.

3. Pat requested a committee to check reflective paint and tape on local Gates for precautionary reasons. Trisha will ask Newton Police Chief to confirm the gates were marked correctly.

Busch Farm:
1.      Nancy made a motion to purchase materials to install a beaver deceiver at the second culvert. Trisha Seconded. All in Favor. Peter Abstained.

2.      Trisha motioned to have Peter remove the damn at the second culvert, and supply rental equipment at a rate of $150.00 per hour. Tim Seconded. All in Favor. Peter Abstained.

Land Acquisition:
1. Trisha announced to the members that the Wilder’s Grove and Pinkerton Properties have been purchased.


Nancy motioned to Adjourn at 8:40pm. Seconded by Peter. All in Favor.
