CABLE COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
DATE: January 26, 2011
PLACE: Town Meeting Hall

CALL TO ORDER: 5:32p.m.

Minutes from Previous Meeting of January 5, 2011:
- Mary W. motioned to accept the minutes as written. Sally seconded and they were accepted unanimously.
Budget:
- The budge will be reviewed at our next meeting.
Correspondence and Communications: None
Upcoming Events:
- Deliberative Session, February 7, snow date Feb. 9
Unfinished Business:
- Mary W will compose an email to the department heads asking for their input about Comcast Cable Service, should it pertain to them.
- Mary W is trying to get a moderator to run the Candidates Night. We are hoping it will be held on February 15, 2011.
- Sally said she would forward a copy of the 2010 Newton Cable Committee Survey.
- Diane reported that she has printed out new procedures. Sue said she would see that they were placed in the Cable room binder.
New Business:
- Mary W said that several people have expressed an interest in speaking about various warrant articles. They hope to explain the article and its impact on Newton residents. Mary M volunteered to host the session to be held live on Channel 20. She offered to meet with them prior to the showing. Mary W. will send an email to these people and ask them to contact Mary M.
- The committee will brainstorm any questions they feel would be helpful in a survey that would be issued to the residents. The results would then be made available to Comcast.
- Diane asked the committee to try to come up with a way to organize the slides presented on channel 20 so that all the Transfer Station slides are together, all the police slides together, etc.
- The committee discussed the distribution of the franchise fee. Currently, the 5% fee charged to cable subscribers goes into the Town budget. If we were to have some of the monies deferred to the trust fund, that was set up for the town cable, what would we do with it? Diane asked that at the next meeting we come up with a list which would include, equipment, connection to the Memorial School, etc. This will be put on the agenda for our next meeting.
