CABLE COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

DATE:                   April 14, 2010
PLACE:          Town Meeting Hall
TIME:                   5:30p.m.
CALL TO ORDER:  5:45p.m.
Roll Call:      Diane Morin, Chairman; Mary Winglass, Public       Relations/Programmer, Sally Woodman, Secretary;
Sue Godin, operator/cable member, Mary Marshall,
        Tom Gasse
Minutes from Previous Meeting of March 31, 2010: Accepted as amended.

Correspondence and Communications:
There were three requests for a channel 20 slide announcement;
   1. Mosquito Control starting the week of April 12th.
   2. The Town Clerk’s office closure on 5/27/10.
3. A change in Gale Library hours starting May 1, 2010.

Unfinished Business:
  • Diane now had access from home to the Cable computer. Diane was able to assist the cable operator from home during the taping of a Planning Board meeting.
  • A password has been created for the cable operator.
  • Mary Marshall researched the Cable Franchise. She found we are not eligible for a second drop. A Cable Trust Fund was created in 2000 for cable equipment and services. The Trust Fund has not been replenished. Mary W suggested we go through the Cable room to determine what is needed for equipment. If we wish to have a larger percentage of the franchise money funneled into this trust fund we will need to create a warrant article for next year.
  • The possible need for movie making and editing software was discussed. The committee felt Mary M. could continue to use ‘Movie Maker’. Mary M also mentioned that the sound quality on her camera was not good at this time. The microphone belongs to the Mary’s boom box system. Diane said she would get one from her home to Mary M. to try out.
  • The new hard case for the camera has arrived.
  • A schedule for the School Board Meeting to be rebroadcast was created. The meeting will be rebroadcast on Wednesdays at 1:00p.m., Fridays at 6:00p.m., and Saturdays at 10:00a.m.
  • Tom Gasse said he will deliver the School Board meeting tapes to the cable room.
  • The first quarter expenditures are posted on the Cable 20 site.
  • Scheduling rebroadcasting is difficult if the length of the meeting is not known.
  • The board felt purchasing several more mini tapes would be wise.
  • Several changes need to be made to existing slides due to the town elections.
  • Diane and Mary W will set a time to get together in order for Mary to be able to create slides for Channel 20.
New Business:
  • The need to create a template for anyone wanting to have a slide made was expressed. And the creation of effective slides is still ongoing. Tom agreed to send a template to try.
  • It was suggested that pictures be taken of the paint scraping at the Old Schoolhouse this weekend. Diane agreed to bring her camera and take pictures.
  • Mary M will look into filming the Transfer Station with Kevin explaining what is going on.
  • There was a discussion on how to easily transfer the footage from the Camcorder to the PC so that it can be broadcast. More research will be done.
Other:
  • Diane looked into tablecloths. She found they would be expensive but she would continue to look for them. Tom then offered to check the possibility of getting tablecloths that he has.
  • Mary M said that the ‘Political Chowder’ DV’s were outdated.
  • Mary W said Sue could call her if there was a question about a scheduled meeting that a cable operator would need to be at.
  • Mary W explained that the BOS are meeting more frequently to sign manifests.
  • Mary W informed the committee of how Sandown broadcasts their slide with minimum verbiage. She was asked to find out the software that they used to create their slides.  Tom created his template using Photoshop which might be an option for us to purchase.  The committee needs to look into software to create slides and edit video that has been recorded.  Photoshop Suite is a very expensive option which we may not have use for all of it.

Next Cable Committee meeting: The next meeting will be a working meeting and is to be held on 5/14/10. Bring extra boxes. The committee will be getting rid of outdated material, labeling cables, and Diane will be teaching the committee the Nexus software.

Adjournment:  7:05P.M.

                                        Respectfully submitted,

                                        Sally Woodman
                                        Secretary
