Board of Fire Engineers Meeting
August 18, 2014

(The following minutes were voted and accepted at the October 20, 2014 meeting)

The monthly meeting of the Town of Newbury Board of Fire Engineers was called to order by Chief William Pearson at 19:00 hours at the Newbury Station with the following members present:  William Pearson, Douglas Janvrin, Jr., Wallace Ziehler, Timothy Wareham, Justin Webb, Terrence Martin and Douglas Packer.

Motion made by Wallace Ziehler and 2nd by Timothy Wareham to accept the minutes from July 21, 2014 as read.  Motion passed unanimously.

Chief Pearson states solar panel projects are coming up. Training will be provided.  

The recent near drowning call on Plum Island was discussed.  

The recent Boston Road train incident was discussed.  Captain Wareham gave an account of the incident.  Deputy Ziehler voiced concerns over how the call was handled and felt as though an engine should have been present for the entire incident.  Captain Wareham was instructed to wear his gear at all calls and not to drive fast.  

The night Plum Island Bridge opening should be this week.

Chief Pearson states that Ladder 1 was taken to Plum Island and moved around certain streets to ascertain access.  

Douglas Packer discussed the progressive discipline policy.  

Deputy Janvrin states that personnel files have been made for all Fire Department personnel.

Deputy Ziehler states that the contract for the Town Engine has been executed.   The order should have been placed on Wednesday the 6th.

Deputy Ziehler requests monthly account balances from the Town Accountant.  Douglas Packer will handle.  

Captain Webb discussed possible training at the Plum Island Airport.  There will be an auto extrication drill on Monday night at 6:30 pm at Byfield Auto.

The broken hydrant on High Road has been repaired.

Chief Pearson requests that all BOFE members look at the running cards for both Stations.  These are to be used at all fires.  

Deputy Ziehler states that Lt. Tom Denman has been granted lifetime membership by Protection 2 as he is moving to Texas.

Deputy Janvrin requests that in the future, all new Firefighters be appointed at the monthly BOFE meetings instead of waiting for annual appointments.  

Motion made by Timothy Wareham and 2nd by Douglas Janvrin, Jr. to adjourn at 20:16 hours. Motion passed unanimously.  Meeting adjourned.
