Municipal Building Committee Meeting Minutes 2015-01-26
Town of Newbury
Municipal Building Committee

MINUTES

DATE:   January 26, 2015        Approved as written, 3/5/2015

Present:        Eric Svahn, Chair; Steve Fram; Sam Joslin; John Lucey, Jr. (part-time); Richard Ronder; Martha Taylor
Absent: Tracy Blais; Mike Doyle

Eric Svahn, Chair, called the meeting to order at 7:10 a.m.

  • Protection Fire Company #2:
E. Svahn reported that T. Blais was waiting for a formal offer from Protection #2 for the sale of its vacant land to the Town; the letter was due by the end of the day.

  • Site Options and Considerations:
If Protection #2 does not make an offer or if the Company and the Town are not able to reach agreement if an offer is made, Option 1 – a new combined Town Hall and Police Station on the current site, as approved at the October 28 and December 9, 2014 joint meetings with the Selectmen – will be the remaining option.  The Committee discussed the advisability and/or desirability of presenting two options, one showing an entirely new building and one showing a phased approach consisting of an addition to the existing building for the Police as the first project, with renovations to Town Hall as a second, later project.  Once the Committee receives a response from Protection #2, it will make a recommendation.

  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
In answer to questions that have been raised by residents, the Committee discussed including two questions on an FAQ sheet which is being developed:  1) What if Newbury were to join the regional dispatch system; and 2) What if Newbury were to contract with another community for police services.

On a motion made by R. Ronder and seconded by S. Joslin, the meeting was adjourned at 8:20 a.m.

NEXT MEETING:
TBD

Respectfully submitted,

Martha L. Taylor, Town Planner
