Municipal Building Committee

MINUTES

DATE:   May 8, 2014     Approved as amended, 5/15/2014

Present:        Tracy Blais; John Lucey, Jr.; Richard Ronder; Eric Svahn; Martha Taylor;
Absent: Sam Joslin

The meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m.

- Introductions:  The meeting began with the introduction of Richard Ronder, citizen representative, to the other members of the Municipal Building Committee (MBC), who were all members of the previous Public Safety Complex Committee (PSCC).

- Public Outreach:  The Committee discussed making a brief report to Town Meeting on May 20 regarding the Municipal Building Committee and the need for a new Police Station.  Suggestions of items to note in the report included:  1) Potential liability for the Town due to substandard facilities; 2) High turnover rate due to poor working conditions – townspeople are not getting good value for their investment in officer training and are not able to build long term relationships with members of the police force.

The Committee also discussed the possibility of increasing membership of the MBC to include a marketing/public relations person.

Motion:  A motion was made by J. Lucey and seconded by T. Blais to focus the Committee’s efforts for the next couple of meetings on the report for Town Meeting.  The motion passed unanimously.

- Election of Committee Officers:

Motion:  A motion was made by T. Blais and seconded by M. Taylor to elect Eric Svahn Chair of the MBC.  The motion passed unanimously.

Motion:  A motion was made by J. Lucey and seconded by R. Ronder to elect M. Taylor Secretary of the MBC.  The motion passed unanimously.

NEXT MEETING:
May 15, 2014, 7:00 a.m., Town Hall Annex

Respectfully submitted,
