September 15, 2014 – Council on Aging Meeting at COA in Newbury.
Meeting: called to order at 1:15 p.m.
Present: Jean Doyle, Lu Ann Kuder, Joanne Hogan, Alba Gouldthrope, Geri Dorr, Evelyn Noyes, Martie Joe and Joyce Machiros.
Absent: Gene Smith
Motion made to accept last months minutes by Evelyn Noyes and a second by Alba Gouldthrope.
There was discussion of the various transportation services available to the elders of the Greater Newburyport Area: One of which is the Ring and Ride Program run by the Merrimack Valley regional Transit Authority.(there is a brochure on line that can be printed); Neet drivers through the combine efforts of the area councils volunteers use their own cars to take seniors to appointments including the availability of one that takes people to Boston and Burlington which has to planned ahead to be successful. The Merrimack Valley Region Transport Bus was also discussed which serves Andover, Amesbury, Lawrence, Merrimac, Methuen, Newburyport, North Andover and Salisbury.
Old Business
The summer trips that took place were well received by those that attended a couple that were mentioned were the trips to the JFK Library and the Essex river cruise.
New brochure on the Council of Aging of Newbury was distributed to the board members and was well received by all.
The Joint Meeting with the Friends of the Newbury COA was talked about and it was agreed that it was a successful and productive meeting and should be repeated periodically.
New Business
Discussion regarding the Greater Newburyport Council on Aging Facilities and Newbury providing a Regional Calendar of the various programs and the dates and times they are being held at the Merrimac Valley Council on Aging Centers in our area. The towns and cities that were mention Salisbury, Rowley, Merrimac, Georgetown, Groveland and Newbury. Discussion continued on how this would be accomplished after many ideas were brought up in discussion Martie said the Newbury COA will do it in house using a volunteer.
