Martie went on to describe she will be using some of the funds to fund a driver for meals on wheels the job description has gone to town hall for approval before it is posted. She believes that the meals on wheels driver is the first line of defense for frail elders.
Martie reminder the board that the Council on Aging Christmas Party is on December 12 at noon at the Newbury Firefighters Hall. She would like all the board to attend if at all possible.
LuAnn continued discussion concerning COA should act as outreach LuAnn stated she is starting a walking program on Wednesday afternoon. Suggested we could act as Guest Chefs, asked board members to review what they think there roll is as a member of the council on aging and urged people to give some thought of what they could bring to the board in the form of an activity that would increase participation from the community.
Martie mentioned  she had gone to the meeting hosted by the newly formed group “The village “ of Newburyport.  A couple of men reviewed the prototype in Beacon Hill and decided to bring this to the attention of the Mayor of Newburyport.  A steering committee has been working for a few years on this. They are seeking a non profit status to formulate a plan for community living where elders will pay a fee to belong to this community and receive services such as transportation to medical appointments and grocery stores, access to contractors for repairs and home care services when needed.  This will enable the elder to remain in their home and belong to a group that will be the first provider for all urgent needs.  Future meetings will be held and volunteers are asked to join in for future planning.  Martie gave her email and will be interested in learning more about this program.
LuAnn went to a meeting at the Beachcome of a group calling themselves  “Friends of Newbury” Mike Doyle etc. They have asked people to take a survey of what they would like to see in the community and although this group is open to all ages it may be a good group to follow. Next meeting is December 4th at 7:00pm.
Friends of the Council will met next Tuesday and will also work on a mission statement.
Reminder the December 12th Christmas Party will substitute for a Board meeting.
LuAnn is going to meet individually with Board members to solicit ideas as to what other things we could be doing to attract an audience.
Meeting adjourned at 2:30pm

COA will be hosting a Christmas Party at The Firemen’s Hall on December 12th 2013. The friends of the council on aging will be sponsoring the event. Martie will be asking for a $3.00 donation to go to the Red Stocking Program .
