New Business:

Discussion about how and who to recruit to join both the COA and Friends Board.
COA Board should consist of nine members, all residents of the Town with approximately half from each precinct.  Currently we have only 8 members   (3 from PI, 4 from Old Town and 1 from Byfield).
We need to recruit from Byfield.  Jean Doyle mentioned Kay Higgins from Byfield and Michele Papanicalou.  Evelyn Noyes mentioned Rosemary Roddie. These individuals may be good candidates to join the Board.   Martie will track down the phone numbers of each and make a call and discuss the potential to join.
Additional discussion about the decline in members of the Friends Board.  Martie would like to have the current members of the Friends, John Spellman, Debra Kennedy and Kate Benashski put together a communication to be used for recruitment that mentions what the purpose, requirements and commitments are as members. We would like to have a broad base of age and occupation for both boards.

Martie is working on reviewing the over age 70 individuals in the town (610 in total) to determine if they are living with other family besides their spouse or alone.  We want to reach out to those couples or singles for a discussion to let them know we are here and what services we offer.  We are hoping to identify those we can help with resources and referrals for homecare services or other services (e.g.: fuel assistance, Snap benefits, tax abatements and veteran’s services.    Once identified, Martie will have Alix do the initial home visit intake and any follow-up will be done by Martha Webb, who we hired to work under the tax credit for senior work off program.  We are hoping this will keep us proactive and ahead of the curve in making certain the elder is able to maintain independence and quality of life.

Other Business:

Once the staff are up an running with this over 70 project, Martie would like to look at ways to engage the age 60 to 70  year olds (1195 in total) to offer evening informational sessions and discussions about preparing for retirement, social security, health care proxies and wills.  We can bring in professionals from the various agencies to assist in these presentations.  This might also help with recruitment for volunteers and board members.  These resident numbers were taken from a report run by the Town Clerk in September 2012.

Meeting adjourned at 2:10
