Board of Selectmen's Meeting Minutes 2/26/10
BOARD OF SELECTMEN’S MEETING
FEBRUARY 26, 2010

Chairman Story opened the meeting at 2:52 pm.  In attendance were Selectmen Joseph Story, Selectmen Michael Bulgaris, Selectmen Geoff Walker and Town Administrator Chuck Kostro.

Chairman Story explained that this is an emergency meeting due to last night’s storm and the resulting damage.  Town Counsel John Bowman spoke with Town Administrator Chuck Kostro and it is allowable under the state’s open meeting law to hold an emergency meeting without the required 48 hour posting notice under these circumstances.

The Chairman also mentioned that the Red Cross has opened an emergency shelter at the Newbury Elementary School.  The emergency shelter is located in the cafeteria and the gymnasium.  The shelter is opened to anyone who needs it.

Chairman Story said that the only item of business is to declare a local state of emergency as a result of last night’s storm.  Chairman Story spoke with Doug Packer, the Conservation Agent, and indicated that this is important in case of any emergency work that may be required.

Selectman Bulgaris moved to declare a local state of emergency.  Selectmen Walker seconded the motion.  Selectmen Bulgaris asked if the local state of emergency need a time limit.  Chairman Story indicated that the local state of emergency can be ended at the next Selectmen’s meeting.

The Board voted 3-0 to declare a local state of emergency for Newbury.

The meeting adjourned at 2:55 pm.
