Minutes of Transfer Station Advisory Committee 09/18/2007
Minutes of Solid Waste Committee September 18, 2007

Present: Joe Constance (Chair), John Sizemore, Steve Burkhamer, Gerry Cornett. Absent Jim Federer

The meeting opened at 6:30 at the Transfer Station.

Gerry Cornett notified the Committee that the Station had purchased a used backhoe for use at the station. The purchase was made necessary due to increased work at the site and the difficulty of using the highway dept. unit on such a regular basis. Formerly, the skid steer was being used regular for a number of tasks for which it was not intended and was beginning to wear out. Now that the backhoe has been purchased, the skid steer can be repaired and used for lighter duties.

J. Constance asked Gerry for an update on this year’s CIP requests. G.C stated that he has cancelled the requests for purchase of a trash trailer and has no other requests.

GC then updated the committee on the budget noting that next year’s request would be reduced by $49,000.00 even with a 5% increase in trucking and an additional 5% increase in MSW removal. There would also be no increase in staff. He also noted that the recycle rate is at 39.5% and is expected to be at 40% or better for the year.

The committee then discussed the need for a better recycling center. J. Constance and GC will work up some rough plans for a new building dedicated to a recycling center for a future meeting.

GC also brought up the need for a better entrance (and exit) to the station and noted a recent conversation with David Elliot of D&S Excavating. Gerry will be doing a site plan for a new entrance and exit for the project which he expects to be some two years in the future.

The meeting closed at 7:00 PM

Respectfully submitted,

J. Constance
