Transfer Station Advisory Committee January 15 2008
Minutes of Solid Waste Committee January 15, 2008

Present:  J. Constance, Chair, S. Burkhamer, J. Federer, J. Cavan, J. Sizemore, G. Cornett

The meeting opened at 7:00 PM at the Town Hall with the introduction of a new member to the Committee, James Cavan.

The majority of the meeting was spent discussing once again the proposed fees on items such as microwave ovens, mattresses, box springs, couches, sofa beds and lounge chairs.  Previously, G. Cornett had noted that the amount of these items had grown significantly over the past two months, particularly mattresses and box springs, the weight figure averaging 8 tons per month.  Material brought from out of town, since there are no fees in New Boston, was thought to be a contributing factor to this increase.

Considerable discussion took place over the prospective amount to be levied as well as the merits of a fee itself.  Eventually, all agreed there should be one standard fee for all items, the figure of $10.00 being suggested.

The Chair called for a vote on the subject, it being only a recommendation that would then be forwarded to the Selectmen.  The vote was four in favor and one opposed. The Committee will gather before the Selectmen on Monday, February 11, to discuss the recommendation.

A vote was then held for the election of a new Chair.  James Cavan was nominated and elected Chair.

The meeting concluded at 7:40 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Joseph W. Constance, Jr.
