Forestry Committee Minutes 06/07/2010
NEW BOSTON FORESTRY COMMITTEE

Minutes of Meeting – June 7, 2010

ATTENDEES:  Kim DiPietro, Tim Trimbur, Karl Heafield, Nancy Loddengaard

The meeting was called to order at 7:15 pm.

REVIEW OF MAY MINUTES:  Minutes approved as written.

OLD BUSINESS

Johnson Lot

Bob Todd reported on timber inventory and handed out copies.  He said the lot began as a pasture, and presently had several large white oaks in the samples he measured.  There were maybe 15 large white oaks on the whole property.  Some malformed white pines, some good saw logs as well as mixed age pines were in the samples.  Bob Todd showed map topography, soil series, and said the rock outcrop predisposes the trees to windthrow.  He reported one vernal pool to be avoided.  He recommended a written agreement with the landowner with a copy going to the logger with the expectations clear for both.  The timber cruise bill was $1594 and was to be given to Dave Allen.  He expected the cost of his services if the committee proceeds to be $4000 to $4500.  He spoke to the wildlife value of the area, and that a cut would be needed to eliminate some of the malformed trees to allow the smaller trees to have room to grow.  Some discussion occurred around the costs involved, how much to cut, and Tim will contact the other Forestry members to gather their input.  Tim thought the cut may try to be arranged between September and March.

Lydia Dodge Lot West

Tim Trimbur has his contract to cut.  Tim to bring a few more logs to Tom Miller this weekend and then they will work with Dave Allen to get the abutments in and to make the roadway able to handle the equipment so they can work on the bridge.

Trail Maps- no update

Intents to Cut - None to review.

Fall agenda – To review long term management plans, and to vote on officers.

NEXT MEETING:  Sept. 13, 2010
