NEW BOSTON FORESTRY COMMITTEE
Minutes of Meeting – March 5, 2007

ATTENDEES:~ Karl Heafield, Tom Lazott, Kim DiPietro, Jon Brooks, Tim Trimbur, Nancy Loddengaard

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.

REVIEW OF JANUARY MINUTES:~ Minutes approved as edited.

TREASURER’S REPORT:~ $1363.78

OLD BUSINESS

Lydia Dodge Patch Cut
~~~ Karl Heafield reported that Bob Todd was reportedly to talk to John Ferguson regarding woodchips for biomass as part of the timber stand improvement discussions.~ Tim Trimbur talked to John Ferguson who is waiting for the snow to melt before marking trees.~ An intent to cut needs to be completed.~ Tim reports the timber market is not good at present.~ Kim read a letter from Bob Todd which included an old contract, and gave it to Karl Heafield and it can be used as the basis for a new contract.

Marvel Easement
~~~ Kim DiPietro reports that the Piscataquog Area Trailways is willing to contribute to the memorial to Ken Marvel.~ The Conservation Commission has not yet been contacted.~ Information is being collected on plaques.~ Discussed bronze vs plastic vs sandblasting a stone.~ Tom Lazott to check with Dave Allen regarding the cost of labor and if he can mount the plaque on the granite.~ Tom also will write up wording for the plaque to share at the next meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

Intents to Cut:
~~~ There were no problems noted with the intents to cut.~ Tom Lazott suggested it may be useful for the committee to review the final cut reports.

Lydia Dodge Lot
~~~ Jon Brooks mentioned that the gate is open to the Lydia Dodge area.~ He will moniter
the use of the area.

Elm Research Institute, Keene, N.H.
~~~ Karl Heafield received information from the Elm Research Institute, and if you purchase a few trees, they donate a tree.~ The committee felt the cost of the trees was rather high.

Sherburne Lot
~~~ The town has found clay in the sand pit area, and as a result added money to the town budget for sand in case the sand runs out at the Sherburne Lot.~ The town has reclaimed the 1st phase of the digging area.~ Discussed possibly planting Christmas trees.

Trail Maps
~~~ Discussed making trail maps for existing trails.
