September 2, 2010

In Attendance: Burr Tupper, Barbara Thomson, Amy Elkes-Simon, Mark Brown, Rebecca Balke, Tom Morgan, Laura Bernard

Interested Parties: None

Minutes: August Minutes Approved as Written

Treasurers Report: $707,968.25 of which $447,763 is Open Space (before the $80k check for deRoth property).

OLD BUSINESS:

Scouts camping on Rail Trail – The Cub Scouts have asked for permission to camp along the Rail Trail.  Burr Tupper will send a letter giving them permission.

Conservation Signage:  We will ask the company who made the signs for a quote to fix the wording on the signs that currently read trail rather than area.  Barbara will talk with Randy Parker to choose the sign he wants regarding dog poop.
We also need to order an additional sign for Lyndeborough Rd.

Barbara moved to have Mark reimbursed for the t-shirts he ordered.  Rebecca 2nd.  All approved.

DeRoth land easement is complete.  ~60 acres along Rt 136 are now in conservation easement.

Twin Bridge Update: The Planning Board accepted the 2,900’ cul-de-sac that leaves 60-70 acres of conservation area.  Ian McSweeny will help facilitate having the land overseen by the PLC.

Planning Board Meetings – Laura will publish and distribute a schedule whereby everyone on the CC will attend 1 or 2 Planning Board meetings over the next 6 months.  If there are conflicts, individuals will be responsible to find a replacement.

NEW BUSINESS:

McCurdy Road Site Walk –Walk is planned from McCurdy Rd to Susan Rd.  Based on a conversation regarding the easement being held by the homeowners association, Burr will talk with Ken and see if there is another option.

All Boards Meeting on September 9th to discuss the Thibeault land on Route 13.  Burr is working to garner support from others (especially Rick Matthews since it’s his last year).  Possibility of a bond next year along with Conservation Commission monies?.  Burr will discuss with Ken having a new appraisal done on the property.

LaPenn concerns – Burr read a letter sent to Mr. LaPenn by the Board of Selectmen that prompted a discussion about the ongoing maintenance of conservation lands in town.  It was pointed out that the land the Selectmen visited was not town-owned land, but private property.  We may want to work with the Highway Department or the Recreation Commission about finding somebody to do some of the miscellaneous work (trash pickup, mowing, etc…), on town-owned land and the Conservation Commission could partially fund that effort.
