MEETING OF THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN
TOWN OF MOUNT DESERT, MAINE
Monday, August 11, 2008

A meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held this date in the Meeting Room at the Mount Desert Elementary School Auditorium, Joy Road, Northeast Harbor, Maine.

Those present included: Chairman Jeffrey Smith, Selectmen, Rick Mooers, Patrick Smallidge, Jean Bonville; Charles Bucklin; Town Manager Michael MacDonald; Recording Secretary Jennifer McWain and 12 members of the public.

Call to order.

Vice Chairman Smallidge called the meeting to order at 6:02PM.

VII.    General Issues

A.      Forum on Draft Mount Desert Comprehensive Plan

        Comprehensive Plan Chairman Suminsby talked to the audience in attendance about what the forum was hoping to accomplish with citizen input. Mr. Suminsby gave highlights of the Comprehensive Plan for first time attendees.


B.      Welcome

        Comprehensive Plan Chairman Suminsby gave a brief explanation about the Comprehensive Plan. He also spoke of why a Comprehensive Plan is needed and the goals of the plan.

        Mr. Suminsby invited attendees to move about the room to review and read the maps and informative posters with goals for each session. He then asked the attendee to record their thoughts and comments on the poster paper beside the informative posters.

        Suggestions from those in attendance were to change certain words, shall, required and must; they would like to see these words being used instead. Mr. Irvin commented that there were no notices for public hearings, because there were no public hearings. Mr. Fox commented that he didn't remember seeing the language for the setbacks on Maine State Shore Land Requirements, and that he would feel better if the Comprehensive Plan Committee would consider take examples from other Comprehensive Plans from other towns and planning departments.

At 7:35PM Selectman Mooers moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Selectman Smallidge. The motion was approved, 5-0.
