Minutes of Public Protection Committee Meeting held on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 @ 10:00 at the Town Office Meeting Room, Northeast Harbor.
• Members present – Dennis Shubert, Fire Chief Mike Bender, Public Works Director Tony Smith, Police Chief James Willis
• Discussion / Circulation of the Public Protection Committee Mission Statement which reads “The Public Protection Committee, serving at the direction of the Board of Selectmen, will inventory and present a listing of the Town’s resources and assets necessary to maintain public safety of the citizens, assets, and resources of the Town. The Committee will identify public safety deficiencies and make recommendations for the remediation of those deficiencies”.
• The members discussed the history of the former public protection committee and the various building study reports which have been conducted by or on behalf of the town in recent years.
• The members discussed who should be invited to join the committee and agreed that invitations should be extended, for our next meeting, to representatives of the Northeast Harbor Ambulance Service, Harbormaster’s Office, Mount Desert Water District, the Town Manager and a representative from the board of selectmen as a liaison between the committee and the select board.
• The members agreed that the committee should adopt an analysis and planning approach to meeting the goals established within the mission statement, which was drafted by the Select Board as a guide for the committee.
• The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, 2008 @ 10:00 at the Town Office Meeting Room in Northeast Harbor.
