The Mount Desert Island Regional School District Trustees held a meeting on 31 August 2009 with
the following members present: Ed Bonville, Bob Webber, Lisa Krautwald, Steve Hudson, Tina Jewett,
Eric Henry, Shelley Mitchell, Marilyn Moore, Eric Clark, Burr Shaw and Matthew Bucklin.
Others present: Rob Liebow, Nancy Thurlow, Matthew Garrity-Janger, Butch Bracy, Chuck Bucklin,
Dick Broom and Mary Wallace.
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Ed Bonville at 7:02 p.m.
VOUCHER
A voucher was circulated for approval.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
MOVED by Bob Webber, seconded by Eric Henry and unanimously voted to approve the
minutes of the 3 June 2009 meeting as presented.

ACTION ITEMS
ACCEPTANCE OF BID FOR ROOF PROJECT
Six firms requested specs on the roof project; four of the firms submitted bids. The following
bids were opened and read aloud in the Superintendent’s Office at 2:00 p.m. on 31 August 2009.

Dan Robbins of Harriman Associates has reviewed the bids and recommends Roof Systems of
Maine for both options at a total of $629,830.00 and recommends Kevin W. Smith & Son as
backup. Both firms’ proposals fully meet the job specifications.
MOVED by Robert Webber, seconded by Eric Henry and unanimously voted to accept Roof
Systems of Maine’s bid.
ACCEPTANCE OF BID FOR FUNDING FOR ROOF PROJECT
Four banks submitted funding bids for the roof project at a cost of up to $900,000.
The following bids were opened at the Superintendent’s Office at 3:40 p.m. on 28 August 2009.

Union Trust Company 4.3%
Machias Savings Bank 4.75%
The First 4.75%
$130,000 has been offered by the MDIHS School Committee; $50,000 is available in the
Trustees’ budget. During discussion, it was suggested that $100,000 be used for the roof project
and that the remaining $80,000 be reserved for the budget. When asked what other projects
might be funded if the $80,000 was available in the budget, Butch Bracy mentioned boiler
replacement.
After further discussion, it was MOVED by Robert Webber, seconded by Marilyn Moore and
unanimously voted to use the $130,000 from the MDIHS School Committee for the roof project,
thereby reducing the amount to be borrowed, and to borrow the amount of $650,000 from Bar
Harbor Bank & Trust.
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING BOND ISSUANCE
MOVED by Steve Hudson, seconded by Robert Webber, and unanimously voted that the
Resolution entitled “Resolution Authorizing Mount Desert Island Regional School District Bond
Issuance for Roof Repairs to Mount Desert Island High School” be approved in the form
presented at this meeting and that the Secretary file an attested copy of said resolution with the
minutes of this meeting. (Copy filed with 8/31/09 minutes in Superintendent’s office)

MOVED by Eric Henry, seconded by Tina Jewett and unanimously voted to adjourn at 8:05 p.m.
Following adjournment, Trustees signed the Resolution Authorizing Mount Desert Island
Regional School District Bond Issuance for Roof Repairs to Mount Desert Island High School, a
copy of which is attached herewith.
