Minutes
The Mount Desert School Committee held a meeting on Wednesday, 7 May 2008, with the following members present: Chair Mia Brown, Gail Marshall, Brian Reilly and Heather Jones
Also present were Scott McFarland, Rob Liebow, Sumner Rulon- Miller, Paula Moody, Jackie Wheaton, Julie Reddish-Smith, and Becky Heniser
CALL TO ORDER
Mia Brown called the meeting to order at 4:02 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
MOVED by Gail Marshall, seconded by Heather Jones and unanimously voted to approve the minutes of 2 April 2008, as written.

PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Principal McFarland presented his report
DISCUSSION ITEMS
" Primary Grade Configurations: Principal McFarland outlined the different possible scenarios for next year's primary grades. Final decision will depend on the student numbers and will be made as soon as the numbers settle out.
" HeartMath: Principal McFarland and Paula Moody outlined the concepts of HeartMath and the training that will be taking place with 20 staff members this spring. A second grade student demonstrated how the biofeedback part of the program works.
" Update on Consolidation: Brian Reilly presented a motion that supports equal representation for each town that would be in our school district, as well as supporting the idea of the addition of any town that is in our geographical area. After a lengthy discussion there was no action on the motion. The committee agreed to have Laurel Robbins stay on the RPC though her term has been completed on the MDES board.

" MOVED by Gail Marshall, seconded by Heather Jones and unanimously voted to Brian Reilly as the new vice-chair of the school committee.
" MOVED by Gail Marshall, seconded by Heather Jones and unanimously voted to elect Jim Willis as the Truant Officer for MDES.
" MOVED by Gail Marshall, seconded by Heather Jones and unanimously voted to elect Scott McFarland as Attendance Officer for MDES.
" MOVED by Gail Marshall, seconded by Heather Jones and unanimously voted to elect Dr. Painter as the school physician.
