Minutes of the meeting of 9/14/16
Meeting Opened at: 9am
Select Board Members Present: Kenn Basler, Chairperson and Carol Edelman
Also in attendance: Stephen Moore, Emily Johnson, Bonner McAlister, Linda Thorpe
Miscellaneous Items Reviewed:
1. Stephen Moore and Bonner McAlister of the Monterey News came in to discuss ways to communicate town government news in the paper since the Monterey News is currently without a reporter. The Select Board Corner was discussed as was increasing the email subscriber list on the town website. Stephen suggested that the Board rotate each month sending in a summary of town news from their own perspective and not as a Selectperson; Carol agreed to write the first one. There will also be a designated section for important meetings coming up.
2. The Board signed the final report for Chapter 90 project 2015-001.
3. The Board reviewed the specs and the operating cost per copy for the Kyocera and the Canon and decided that the Canon is the best option; M. Noe will contact Berkshire Graphics today.
4. The Board approved the work to be done to the outside electrical outlet.
5. The Board reviewed the grant application sent to us by Alicia Couture that she would like to write for Monterey. Carol will follow up with Alicia and will confirm that the payment for writing this grant can be paid from the grant itself.
6. Kenn will be in touch with the Finance Committee to determine by next week when they will be holding their informational meeting for the October special town meeting so we can put a notice in with the mailing of the warrants.
7. Carol reported on her meeting with Maria Rundle, Monterey’s School Committee Rep about the Monterey School Building. There was some concern with Mary Ellen Brown sending information to the district regarding the building walk through prior to the Board being able to discuss it as a whole. It was agreed to meet with Mary Ellen soon as she is running for the school committee to work her into the process/conversations officially. Steve has started to contact contractors about the work that needs to be done at the school building.
8. Next week’s meeting will be scheduled for 11am due to a seminar Kenn and Carol will be attending in the morning.
9. The Board asked M. Noe to prepare a packet of info to review next week with regards to the review of the permitting process for special and theatrical events.
10. Warrants were signed.
11. Kenn reported on the MassDOT class he attended last week. This class was very helpful and informative and Kenn is proposing that Monterey host workshops for the surrounding south county towns with specialized speakers with regards to snow & ice and roads.
12. Minutes from 9/7/16 were approved.
13. Mail was reviewed which included:
a. Complaint filed by Rudy Gero to the Department of Labor. Kenn has met with counsel and dates were given for a hearing during October.
14. Administrative Assistant’s weekly reports were reviewed.
15. Police Chief’s weekly report was reviewed.
A motion was made and unanimously approved to adjourn the meeting at: 11am
