Monterey Select Board
Minutes of the meeting of 8/30/10
Meeting Opened at: 4:00pm
Select Board Members Present: Jonathan Sylbert, Chairperson, Wayne Burkhart, and Scott Jenssen
Also in attendance for parts of the meeting: Sue Protheroe for the Monterey News, Michael Storch, Stanley Ross, Dan Moriarity and Susan Berkholtz
The board met with Director of Operations, Maynard Forbes to review the following items:
1. Weekly Reports reviewed:
a. Beaver ponds checked and culverts cleaned
b. Site work done around Salt Shed
c. Speed sign was installed near the school for the Police Department
d. Drainage was paved around the salt shed
e. Poison ivy killed on RT 57
f. Intersections mowed
g. Ditch cleaned out on RT 57 & Brook Lane
h. A section of Beartown Mtn Rd (by McCarty Rd) was graveled and graded.
i. The 1st section of Beartown Mtn Rd near Fairview and Brett was graveled and graded.
j. Maynard met with the Transportation Planning Group and MASSDOT Boston regarding the strap grant. State has only $1.5 million to spend this year. Monterey presented its case but there is little hope of receiving money. DOT/Mass Highway will present grants in September.
k. Met with Brian Domina of Berkshire Regional Planning regarding a hazard mitigation plan.
l. Colta Ives complained about speeding on New Marlborough Road via email. Will forward to Police Chief.
m. Susan Berkholtz, who owns property on Laurel Banks, complained of run-off from 57. Laurel Banks is a private road and she was informed the town cannot intercede on her behalf.
n. Bally Gally repairs need to be seen to. See letter from renters. M. Forbes says he is taking care of the repairs.
o. On September 20th at 7:00, we will dedicate the Salt Shed. SB meeting to begin at 7:30.
Miscellaneous Select Board Items Reviewed:
1. Warrants were signed.
2. The Police Chief submitted his time off request.
3. Sean Tryon brought in the appointment list for the Fire Department. A motion was made and seconded to accept the appointments, and voted in the affirmative. The following appointments were made for 1 year:

4. The Select Board will ask for increased police patrols on New Marlboro Rd and Fairview Rd.
5. The Finance Committee reported on the Fire Department's compensation and recommended to the Select Board that they hold the Fire Company to their 2011 budget of $60k. The FC is not making recommendations on how the FD should appropriate their budget.
6. Linda Thorpe brought in the primary warrants to be signed.
A motion was made and unanimously approved to adjourn the meeting at: 5:30pm
