Minutes of the meeting of 12/31/07
Meeting Opened at: 8:30am
Select Board Members Present: Jonathan Sylbert, Chairperson, and Scott Jenssen
Also in attendance for parts of the meeting: Michael Storch
The board met with Building Inspector, Donald Torrico and reviewed the following items:
1. D. Torrico informed the board that he and Peter Kolodziej will be going to court on the 9th with the owners of the Blue Heron properties regarding some illegal building work performed and health code violations.
The board met with Police Chief, Gareth Backhaus to review the following items:
1. Weekly report goes back to the 17th:
a. Complaint filed regarding an annoying, threatening phone call.
b. Car off the road on Route 23.
c. Continuing complaints regarding the noisy transformer on Art School Rd have been received.
d. Motor vehicle stop that was towed due to an expired registration.
e. Medical emergencies on Beartown Mtn Rd. and Tyringham Rd.
f. Motor vehicle accidents on Corashire Rd., Route 23 (near Otis), Pixley Rd. and Main Rd.
g. Abandoned van on Wallace Hall Rd.
h. Report of a B&E on Main Rd., no forced entry was seen but items were missing.
i. Disabled motor vehicles on Preyer-Fiske Rd. and Steven’s Lake.
j. Assisted with a drunk and disorderly call in Gt. Barrington.
k. Suspicious motor vehicle reported on Art School Rd.
l. Abandoned 911 call on Mt Hunger Rd.
m. On inspection, the transmission on the cruiser was unable to be rebuilt due to excessive rebuild overheating. The factory rebuilt transmission for $2600.00 was installed and now there is a vibration occurring. The garage has a call into the company.
The board met with Inter-Departmental Secretary, Melissa Noe to review the following items:
1. M. Noe asked the Board’s permission to attend the Wellness Class being held in Egremont on 2/6/08 from 11-12, offered through MIIA insurance.
The board met with Town Accountant, Barbara Gauthier to review the following items:
1. Vendor warrants were signed.
Miscellaneous Select Board Items Reviewed:
1. Minutes from 12.17.07 were approved as written.
2. The board would like to discuss with the Parks Department the possibility of putting some money into upgrading the ice rink so that it can be used earlier in the season and to also prevent some of the problems they are encountering filling the ice rink and keeping it frozen.
3. Town Counsel can sit in for interviews on the investigation process on 2/11/08 from 9:30 – noon. He is going to email the Board a draft subpoena to use. He looked into the serving process and confirmed that summons have to be served by someone authorized to serve process and recommended that everyone to be interviewed be summonsed. This will be discussed and finalized next week when W. Burkhart returns.
4. The Board asked M. Noe to set up a meeting with the Emergency Manager (G. Backhaus) and the Board of Health to discuss the Mutual Aid letter received from BRPC.
5. The Board asked M. Noe to set up a meeting with Pat Mielke, Treasurer to discuss the senior work program passed at the last Town Meeting.
A motion was made and unanimously approved to adjourn the meeting at: 11:05pm
