MONTEREY SELECT BOARD
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF APRIL 24, 2006
The regular weekly meeting of the Monterey Select Board was opened at 8:30 a.m. with members Michèle Miller (Chair), Michael Storch, and Jonathan Sylbert all present.
In attendance for the meeting: Town Secretary Melissa Noe; Laurily Epstein of the Monterey News
· The Board met with Building Commissioner Don Torrico to review building items.
· The Board met with Director of Operations Maynard Forbes to review Highway Department items. Forbes reported on the very successful Earth Day roadside cleanup project on April 22. There was discussion of instituting a roadside “adoption” program.
· The Board met with Chief Gareth Backhaus to review Police Department items.
· The Board met with Town Secretary Melissa Noe to discuss Town Office items, as follows:
o Job descriptions
o Town Report
· At 10 a.m. the Board met with Bill Johnson and Cliff Weiss to discuss the installation of high-speed Internet access at the Town Offices. Johnson has surveyed the various departments at Town Hall and proposes the expenditure of approximately $600 for satellite hookup and a monthly cost of approximately $60. Johnson also recommended a similar satellite hookup for the Town Garage; another option for the Highway Department would be to hook into Gould Farm’s T1 line.
· Alice Hanlon and Melissa Hamm met with the Board.
· The Board met with Finance Committee members Dan Moriarty and Debra Mielke to discuss the upcoming Annual Town Meeting on May 6 and the Informational Meeting scheduled for April 28. Also present was Chuck Mielke. There was discussion of compensation for the Board of Registrars.
· The Board approved an Earth Removal Permit (renewal), submitted by Leigh Tryon of Tryon Construction, for removal of gravel on land of Gould Farm off Curtiss Road.
· The Board met in Executive Session with Police Chief Gareth Backhaus from 11:40 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.
· Highway and Treasury Warrants were signed. The clerk was given instructions regarding correspondence.
· The Minutes of April 10, 2006, were approved as written.
· It was unanimously voted that the meeting be adjourned (12:05 p.m.).
