Planning Board minutes for Thursday June 12, 2014
The meeting opened at 7:15 p.m.
Members present: Roger Tryon, Alan Salamon, Tom Sawyer, Larry Klein, Barry Karson.
Members absent: Maggie Leonard, co-chair, and Stephen Enoch, co-chair.
The board read the minutes from 5-22-14. There being only three members present who were at the 5-22 meeting, the board decided to wait on voting to approve.
Rob Hoogs met with the board to discuss cluster zoning with regard to local farms. This would allow farmers to site and sell residential lots while preserving the remaining land for agriculture. Hoogs described it as a “flexible development bylaw.” Such a zoning bylaw would modify frontage, maintain open space, and maintain density by clustering development. Hoogs also told the board about the Agricultural Preservation Restriction program (APR).
The board discussed the possible results of a cluster development bylaw, such as:
- housing needs to serve a younger population
- provide agricultural continuity
The board discussed ADU’s: family use vs. general use; and attached units or separate from house.
The meeting was adjourned at 9 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Maggie Leonard from notes by Barry Karson
