Agenda
Proposal to enter into a contract with Berkshire South to recruit, interview, train, pay and supervise lifeguards at the Lake Garfield town beach. Questions were asked by Steve as well as members of the Parks Commission.
Q- If there is an incident at the beach involving the lifeguards action or inaction, who is liable?
  • Berkshire South will assume full liability through this contract. Laura will provide the Parks Commission with a copy of their liability insurance for inspection.
Q- What happens when it rains?
  • The Parks Commission will determine if the Town Beach should be closed due to weather. If the beach is closed, the lifeguards may be assigned work at town hall or another location at the Parks Commission/Select Board discretion.          
Q-How will Swimming Lessons be organized?
  • Swimming instructors will be paid according to Monterey Policy. The Parks Commission will continue to organize the lessons. If the Parks Commission needs assistance in recruiting a teacher, Berkshire South will be glad to help.        
Q- Will the new lifeguards have the same responsibilities?
  • Yes. Kelly will send a list of Lifeguard responsibilities to Laura.  
Q- What is the pay scale for returning Lifeguards?
  • Returning Monterey Lifeguards will be paid at the same rate as last year. New lifeguards will be paid at the standard Berkshire South rate of $11.50/hr.
Q- What is the contract approval procedure?      
  • Berkshire South will send the Parks Commission a copy of the contract they use with Great Barrington. The Parks Commission will make any necessary changes. The Select Board   will approve the contract and take it to Town Counsel. Funding approval for the portion of the contract which falls during this Fiscal Year will go before the Special Town Meeting on Thursday 3/18/16. Kelly will be there to explain the contract.
Q- Who will maintain the beach grounds?
  • The lifeguards will rake the beach each morning. Lawn mowing and necessary repairs will be the responsibility of the town through the Parks Commission.    
Annual Report
        Gary will write a draft of the Annual Report and submit it to the other members of the Parks Commission for approval.

Lawn Mowing Contract
        Kelly will send a copy of the lawn mowing contracts to all commission members. The new contract should specify that new dirt will be added to the Greene Park Baseball Infield.

Skating Party
        A decision about whether or not to hold the 2/15/16 skating party will be made by 2/11/16. The decision will be contingent on the condition of the ice at the Pavilion. Kelly will email the Parks Commission members. None of the supplies for the skating party will be purchased until the party is confirmed.
