Council on Aging Meeting Minutes 8/12/15

                         Minutes    August 12, 2015
The meeting was opened at 10 am.  Present were M. Brown, R. Champigny, L. Hebert and K. Purcell.  Kate Bassler and two visitors joined the group.  The minutes were discussed and approved.
A discussion about the needs of elderly living alone was continued.  Concerns were: various health care needs (vision, hearing, balance, nutrition, cleanliness, socialization), supervision of services, coordination between family, neighbors, service providers and town.   Questions:  are “wellness checks” done and what does that entail; is 3-6 month visit schedule by Elder Services sufficient; should the council request an increase in funding to engage an outreach worker ?  Reminder: privacy regulations apply in various circumstances and seniors, as others, have the right to refuse services.
Events  -  Chesterwood trip was cancelled due to lack of registration and concerns about parking for lunch in Stockbridge during the summer.
Flexpasses for Berkshire Theater, 4, and Chester Theater, 6, have been used.
Eire Canal  So far 28 are confirmed including 19 from Otis.  The bus will pick up at Otis town hall by 8am and at Monterey fire house at 8:15 am.  Parking is available near the pavilion including the west side of the road.
Health Fair  Set for Saturday, October 3rd.  K. Bassler agreed to offer help to J. Rodriguez.  K. Purcell will research refrigerator magnets that contain emergency medical information.
Planning  -  volunteer opportunities, clarify effectiveness of phone number, workshops at MA Council of Aging October 7,8,9th.
