Monterey Council on Aging Minutes of May 13, 2015
The meeting was opened at 10:05am. Present were M. Brown, R. Champigney, K. Purcell and J. Rodriquez. Cynthia Weber and Stella Bodner also attended. The minutes of April 22nd were accepted as written.
Mail contained flyers about current events and included information about changes in transportation. Berkshire Regional Transit/BRT is extending its route south to include Ashley Falls. With a transfer in Lee bus service will continue to Pittsfield though it would be a long ride. Also, Sheffield has withdrawn from SBETC and will arrange alternate transportation for its residents. A concern is that without Sheffield’s assessment the cost to Monterey may be raised. C. Weber reported that little difference is expected since Sheffield’s assessment was close to its cost.
Assisted Listening Device – The device worked as promised. The users of the 4 headphones were very satisfied and others expressed interest in using them also. It was decided to wait before ordering more headphones.
Events – The next luncheon will be on Wednesday, June 24th, at the Brewery in Great Barrington. - The next trip is Thursday, May 28th to the Clark Museum. Transportation is by SBETC bus, leaving Town Hall at 10:00am. - May 25th – Memorial Day program at Veterans’ Monuments at Corashire Cemetery. J.Rodriquez will inquire about getting Arnold Hayes to the ceremony.
Planning – Meet with Wilson McLoughlin House Committee to discuss shared events and space. C. Weber will attend their next meeting. - Elder Services notified the council that the Office of Aging America has grants of $1,500. to $5,000. available. A letter of intent must be sent by May 26th. M. Brown will request a grant for foot care services. - Contact the councils of Otis, Sandisfield and New Marlborough to discuss planning joint events.
Budget – An invoice has been submitted for J. Brown’s installation of the assisted listening device. - Ten people are expected to visit the Clark Museum. Tickets are $20. And the guided tour costs $50. The invoice will be prepared by May 15th.
