Council on Aging
Minutes of December 10, 2014
The meeting opened at 10:15 am with M. Brown, L. Hebert and K. Purcell present. Cynthia Weber joined the meeting.
The minutes of November 14th were accepted with a spelling correction.
M. Brown confirmed that $2,500. is available. E. Johnson supplied a list of town residents over sixty years of age.
C. Weber reported on the Southern Berkshire Elderly Transportation Corporation. It operates out of Great Barrington Senior Center 8 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. Phone 413-528-4773 to make an appointment or to get more information. Please call a day ahead for an appointment. The routine round trip to Monterey is on Thursday but accommodations have been made. The fee for Monterey is $10. This program serves seniors over 55 years, disabled of any age and children needing medical appointments who must be accompanied. Appointments are coordinated with doctors, Senior Center lunches; helpers ride free, groceries are carried in. Transportation is an ongoing need and this system works but more is being considered: trying to meet the
need of south county to reach Suburban Medicine in Lee and BMC in Pittsfield.
Jane Kelley BSN, RN, has agreed to provide foot care services to Monterey monthly. The 2nd Thursday morning seems to be our best choice. There is a $35. fee; insurance is not accepted. She has treated Monterey residents in other local towns so this service could be helpful. Services include: assessment and teaching, nail clipping and filing, corn and callus reduction, comfort measures gentle foot massage and referrals as necessary. M. Brown will schedule the appointments at 528-1598.
Information for the Monterey News should be sent to montereynews9@gmail.com . For the January issue, due date is December 19th.

We will meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday , 10am, in Town Hall.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:40 am.
