Meeting Overview:
Presentation by Dr. Ken Wagner:
Reviewed current status of work being done to fulfill req’s of 604b grant
Discussed general purpose of this study with regards to “filling in the [data point] blanks” in past studies of the lake available, in preparation for a 319 grant application which would fund a specific management plan to be determined after review of Dr. Ken Wagner’s findings and further discussion at a later date.
Discussed the effects of various nutrients (namely phosphorus) on water quality and their effect on potential algae blooms
Briefly discussed his personal views on what metrics to consider in defining “lake health”
Water clarity
Use-based qualitative assessment, etc.
…will contact Dr. Wagner for a more comprehensive list of factors (which he offered to provide the group with)
Review and submittal of previous meeting (2/13) minutes
Reviewed group members’ survey questions for proposed public survey. Discussed need for an introductory statement which declares the group’s intent on providing this survey to the public. It was determined that this introductory statement would further inform the content of the questions and provide greater focus to the survey. Generally, the purpose of the survey will be to gauge public interest in being involved in the decision making process in lake management, and to receive a basic understanding on the public’s current level of education & concern about the various factors of lake management we have discussed thus far.
Reviewed the finalized letter of recommendations to the Select Board. Discussed the potential for an informational meeting to be held on May 1 prior to the annual Town meeting where a vote to allocate funds in support of the LGWG recommendations would take place. This special meeting will be announced in the April Monterey News article.
Carol Edelman notified the group at large that the LGWG is eligible to set up a donation collection structure to fun LGWG sanctioned activities (lake management activities).
Next Meeting – May 6, 7:00PM – Town Hall
