Employee Compensation Committee Meeting
Date: 1/7/09 8:15am – 9:10am
Present: Janet Cathcart, member, Michael Storch, member, Gareth Backhaus, Chief of Police, Raymond Tryon, Fire Chief and Melissa Noe, Secretary
- Janet passed out a voluntary dental benefit proposal thru Altus Dental Insurance Co, Inc. which was given to her from Pat Mielke, Treasurer that handles insurance. The paperwork states that the monthly rates given assume a minimum of 7 enrolled employees. 50% participation required of all benefit eligible employees. It was asked if this plan was accepted by local dentists, which was unknown at this time. M. Noe will inquire with the current full time employees to see who is interested in a dental plan.
- Raymond Tryon stated that in the future (no specific date given) there will be a change in the ranks at the Fire Department. He feels that no one will take over as the Fire Chief at the current salary when he retires (which is $200/mo plus the $25/hr when he attends a call and the same amount for attending “Continuing Education” classes most every Wednesday evening), he also gets paid $2600/yr as the Fire Inspector. Ray stated that there are 2 sides to the position, paperwork and running a scene and in light of that there could be a need for an additional position like a Secretary or Assistant Fire Chief. He estimated approximately $300/month to hire someone to do the paperwork. Ray also feels that there should be a retirement plan set up for the fire personnel that have worked over 30 years.
He thought there was a company called Volunteer Fire Insurance Company of America that offered plans and thought we should also contact our current insurance company MIIA to see if they offer anything. Janet will talk with the Treasurer on this matter to investigate available options.
- The committee will meet again on Thursday, January 15th at 8am. The issues to discuss will be time off (sick and vacation), dental insurance, health insurance for part time employees and salaries.
