School House   The land was donated by the Tryon family c 1845 and the school built in 1877. It has been in use for 137 years.  It is one of the oldest structures in Monterey and many support the continuation of the school.  The building had also served as Town Hall.
The following statement was discussed and agreed upon by the members present : The Monterey Historical Commission has identified the Monterey School House as a significant historical asset of the town of Monterey.
The Massachusetts Secretary of Education, Matthew Malone, is expected to visit the school on Wednesday, May 21, 2014.
Historic Sites       S. Weisz shared the 1998 report done by the Massachusetts Historical Commission on Monterey. He will get additional copies for review. A needed correction to that survey by Bonnie Parsons was noted by C. Weber: the original financing of the library addition in 1974 was from the Monterey Historical Society.
The subject of the Historic District boundaries was tabled.
A meeting is scheduled for May 19, 2014 at 1 pm.
