MONTEREY BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING MINUTES
Date: September 21, 2015
Present: John Makuc, Roy Carwile, Robert Annelli and Peter Kolodziej
Also present: Marc White from Kutsher's Sports Academy and his assistant
The meeting began at 4pm
1. The minutes from 8/31/15 were approved.
2. Hearing regarding KSA operations violations. Marc White was asked to address the deficiencies/violations noted in a letter sent to him earlier. With regards to the swimming pool, it was agreed that the pool would remain closed until further information was obtained from a qualified pool operator. Mr White expressed that the pool was not heavily used but he was interested in continuing to use it once the problems were remedied. The next concern raised by My Kolodziej's inspection was the presence of bedbugs in the academy. Mr. White stated that bedbugs had been a recurrent problem and that KSA had developed effective protocols for dealing with new infestations. It was noted that bedbugs will always be a potential problem and that KSA would continue to perform regular
inspections in order to prevent a larger problem. The third item needing to be addressed, and according to Mr. Kolodziej the most serious, was the failure to adequately address previously cited violations in the kitchen. Most of the discussion centered around the faulty refrigeration units. Some repairs had been attempted but were not successful and Mr. White stated that he was working with an equipment supplier to make better repairs. Also on the date of the most recent inspection, it was noted that the head chef had a medical emergency the previous day which resulted in a less qualified person being left in charge. Mr. Klodziej stated that KSA might want to look into obtaining a professional outside company to run the kitchen and Mr White indicated that he had already begun looking into such services although he was not certain this is the path KSA would pursue. Finally, forth on the list was the concern regarding the uncontrolled mess and
unhealthy conditions at the current rubbish disposal area. Mr. Kolodziej exhibited a photo taken on September 21, 2015 which demonstrated two dumpsters and a large amount of loose rubbish surrounding the area. It was stated by Mr. White that regular attempts had been made to clean up the site however it was likely that a bear was repeatedly visiting the dumpsters. There was some discussion regarding options to remedy this problem. Mr. White was going to research. At the end of the hearing, it was agreed that Mr. White would submit a letter addressing solutions to the above issues and the BOH requested the letter be received by the following week.
3. Pat Salomon was on the agenda to discuss a proposed dog park however she did not appear before the board.
4. Discussion on the potential use of the BOH minigrant funds was held, no firm plans as of yet.
5. All BOH members voted in favor of allowing the current Town Clerk, Jennifer Brown, to act as Burial Agent on behalf of the BOH.
The meeting adjourned at 5:30pm
