MONTEREY BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING MINUTES
Date: September 13, 2010
Present: Robert Annelli, Peter Kolodziej, Stephen Enoch and John Makuc
Also present: Nick from Berkshire Engineering
The meeting began at 3:41pm
1. The minutes from 8.23.10 were approved as written.
2. The Board reviewed the special permit application for 2 Elephant Rock Road. A similar special permit application was submitted in 2008 which Mr. Johnson did not act upon. The Board issued the following opinion to the ZBA: The Board reviewed the septic system upgrade design submitted in September of 2008 and the special permit application plans submitted and has determined that the septic plans on file have expired and since the floor plan has changed an upgraded septic system design will need to be submitted to the Board of Health prior to our issuing an approval.
3. The Board reviewed plans submitted by Nick from Berkshire Engineering for 13 Buckingham Lane. It’s an existing 3 bedroom cottage on the lake and this is a voluntary upgrade to a jet bat system. The Board approved the plans as submitted but a permit was not issued as an installer has not been assigned yet.
4. The Board continued their discussion from the last meeting regarding the requirement for food service permits for various events held including pot luck suppers. Peter explained that the need is there not to make it difficult for groups but to ensure that safe practices are met. Stephen noted that there is an exemption in the health guidelines for non-exempt organizations. Peter stated that the bottom line is the concern for public safety. If these precautions aren’t taken (or some sort of guidance and supervision isn’t offered) and there is a problem it is going to come back on the Town. Peter discussed the newest requirements regarding allergy precautions and the need for posting allergens in each item. John felt that the Board should try to raise awareness in the
community to the potential for food borne illnesses. The Board agreed to start the awareness by contacting the groups that hold regular pot-luck suppers or events. An article will be submitted to the Monterey News regarding the Board wanting to raise awareness. The most common food borne illness is salmonella.
5. The next Board of Health meeting will be on September 20th at 3:30.
The meeting adjourned at 5pm
