MONTEREY BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING MINUTES
Date: May 4, 2009
Present: John Makuc, Stephen Enoch, Robert Annelli and Peter Kolodziej
The meeting began at 3:40pm
- The Board reviewed the animal control log and protocol of the Lee Animal Control Officer.
- John Makuc received a complaint from Buddy Rogers about the strong animal smell coming from the llama farm near him; he felt there were a large number of animals there for the size of the property. R. Annelli stated that if you have at least 5 acres you have the right to farm according to the State. Mr. Rogers is looking for an abatement on his taxes and was told by D. Clawson to speak with the Board of Health. R. Annelli felt there wasn’t a health issue from his inspections as the Animal Inspector and thought if anything it would be a zoning issue.
- P. Kolodziej summarized to the Board the need for the Hebert’s Cove Association to perform regular inspections of the shared septic system. Peter has spoken with D. Moriarity (chair of the association) about this but feels that a follow up letter to the conversation should be sent. R. Annelli asked if the Monterey Board of Health is “policing” shared systems that need to be inspected every two years; P. Kolodziej said we aren’t and that it isn’t the Board of Health’s responsibility, it’s the homeowner’s and if the homeowner doesn’t perform the required testing they are subject to fines from DEP. Peter will prepare a letter to send.
- Peter mentioned that he ran into Matt Kinnaman who is back at New England Keswick and he will be in touch with the Board soon.
- The Board discussed nominating a new chair; a motion was made to make John Makuc the Chair which was seconded and unanimously approved.
- The Board adjourned to the Select Board meeting at 4:25pm to meet with the Select Board, Animal Control Officer and Police Chief to discuss the current protocols.
The meeting adjourned at 4:25pm
