Finance Committee Minutes 2/3/15
Finance Committee Meeting Minutes
2/3/15
10 – 11:15am

Present:  Donald Clawson and Dan Moriarity
Also present for parts of the meeting: Gareth Backhaus and Stanley Ross via telephone

  • Don reported that several weeks ago he met with the Police Chief to go over his budget.  The Chief was present to review his request which includes a $1/hour increase for the part timers (who have not received an increase in 5-6 years) bringing them up to $16.29/hour, a new 4WD cruiser to replace the sedan that was due to be replaced last year but was pushed off a year and an increase of $5,429 to expenses (which includes the $1/hour raise).   Gareth noted that some of the surrounding towns are paying their part timers $19/hour.  Gareth reported that over $2,000 has been spent this year on repairs to the sedan, depleting the funds he had allocated for vehicle repairs for the year.  Currently the sedan is in the shop and it is unknown how much these repairs will total.  Dan and Don did not see any issues with the budget request presented.  Gareth also brought to the Committee’s attention that there is a replacement cost that needs to be considered when/if one of the full timers takes an extended sick leave as the part timers are used to cover the shifts; this happened this year and is going to cause his budget to go over.
  • The Committee reviewed the upcoming special town meeting money articles.  The committee unanimously supports approving articles 1-3 and 5-6.  The committee agreed unanimously that they do not support article 4.  The committee would like more information on article 7 before weighing in.
  • The Committee plans to meet next on Thursday, February 5th at 10am and will ask the Director of Operations/Fire Chief to attend.
Meeting adjourned at 11:15am
