Finance Committee Meeting Minutes
November 8, 2012
4:15 - 5pm
Present: Dan Moriarity, Michael Storch, Stanley Ross and Shawn Tryon, Fire Chief
The Finance Committee requested a meeting with the Fire Chief to discuss his budget, equipment replacement needs and the following:
- Replacement of Engine 1 which was purchase in 1996 and was originally projected to have a life span of 20 years. Shawn reported that it is in good shape and that KME comes in regularly to maintain the engine. Shawn feels that it is in good enough shape to hold off on trading it in for a newer engine until at least 2017.
- Air packs: Should be replaced every 10 years however it is on the capital expenditures to be replaced every 12. The Finance Committee and Fire Chief agreed they should be replaced in FY15.
- Rescue boat: There was agreement that the Air Boat should be sold and replaced with a rubber raft boat and a heavy duty outboard engine for water rescue. At the moment we have been calling New Marlborough for the use of theirs. Shawn will follow up as to cost.
- Fire Dept Expenses: Last year the dept went over by approximately $6,000 so the Finance Committee recommended that it be raised from $39,000 to $47,000 seeing as the replacement of Engine 1 is being put off.
- With regards to Fire Dept Compensation (which is used for calls & education) the Finance Committee stated that he was over last year and they would not feel uncomfortable with this line item being raised by $10 – 15k if better actual figures were provided.
The minutes from November 1st were approved as written.
