Local Cultural Council Minutes 4/19/12
Meeting called to order in Library at 4pm.  Present: Diana Deacon, Roz Halberstadter, John Heffernan,( Chair), Susan Johnson, Lynne Leavitt, (Co-Chair),  Kit Patten, Kathryn Roberts, Pat Salomon,( Publicity)

Barbara Palmer, Director of Bidwell House, presented the Council with a complete calendar of future events at the museum. She thanked us for our financial support and invited us to attend some or all activities.  Some of their presentations overlapped our future plans ie Forest Management and Forest Health ;  Hiking and Archaeology of Trail.  We welcomed her visit and input.

John updated us on financial timing of Town funds to us. future programs are soon to be scheduled for the summer.  Pat requested any firm dates because the Eagle summer calendar is due Friday;  Our local programs can be advertised through the Monterey News and posters in town.  It was decided to request date of performances when future grants are awarded in October.  Therefore our calendar will be set for publication earlier next year.

Monterey Fest is August 18th. Roz suggested a contest involving children.  It was decided to include art and writing submitted on one 8x 10 sheet on “I Love Monterey”.

Katherine and Roz are Co-chairs of committee with Susan and Diana.  The works will be copied into a collection to be distributed.  Everyone Wins!

Flyers and posters will be distributed throughout Monterey with a July 30 deadline.  Notice and article will be in Monterey News the next few months.

Kit will schedule Walk with Bonner for May:   Barbara Swann will speak on Diary of Harriet Townsend in the 1880’s on July 6 (Fri of July 4th weekend); Roz to schedule John Wheeler for Mushroom Walk;  Kit to call Joe Baker Re: Community Center/Garden info to possibly sponsor an event;  John will schedule Robin O’Hearn (songwriter) for her workshop;  Katherine call Barkin for writing workshop; Susan schedule Batchelder for Caligraphy.

Studio Tour is Wendy’s project and is now a successful annual event to be held before Christmas holiday season.

John has met with BJ Johnson to discuss future plans for the Gould Farm Day to be held next year.

Memory of our Monterberry Fest two years ago still lingers.  Perhaps we could solve some of the challenges, ie health codes for producing food, etc. so that it can be repeated.

This long and productive meeting adjourned at 5:45pm.

Respectfully  Submitted,

Lynne Leavitt
