Meeting was called to order by John Heffernan at 4pm. Present: John, Kit Patten, Roz Halberstadter, Kathryn Roberts, Lynne Leavitt
Barbara Palmer appeared to thank the committee for supporting Township #1 Day.
One of the purposes of this meeting was to receive input from townspeople regarding program suggestions.
1. Gigi O'Connell showed us a poster she found as part of the Monterey Historical Society. Before there was a Monterey Cultural Council, there was a Monterey Arts Council. The poster was from the late 1970's, and advertised a three day comprehensive group of events throughout the town. These included: Historic Tours; Dance and Theatre performances produced by both Jacob's Pillow and Shakespeare interns; Community Sing at Lad's Beach; Richard Dyer Bennet Concert; and Festival Worship Service at the church. Attendees were driven around by the school bus. It proves that Monterey was always a creative arts community! It was suggested that we might include some type of Monterey history in our town program presentations by MCC. This would be jointly sponsored by Historical Society and MCC. Lynne will
contact their president, Barbara Swann to invite the Society members to attend the next meeting. The purpose is to explore possible programs.
2.Alice Burke presented the following ideas for programs.
1. Stress and Pain reduction through mind/body approach
2. Community Sing through the Great American Songbook (She also gives voice lessons)
3. Making a World Peace flag
MCC liked the second suggestion and will explore. #1 and 3 were recommended for either Community Dinner or request through a fund grant.
Alice then agreed to join our committee!
Grant applications are due Oct. 15th. Forms are available in many places and applicants are aware of this.
Roz will help Wendy with the Dec. Studio Tour. Next meeting Oct.21st. Meeting adjourned 5:15.
Respectfully submitted, Lynne Leavitt Recording Secretary
