Minutes of Monterey Cultural Council Meeting
Monterey Town Hall
November 29, 2006
Members present: Joe Baker, Maureen Banner, Dianna Downing, Susan Johnson, Neil McGinnis, Joel Schick, Julie Shapiro
Purpose of meeting: Prepare and address acceptance and rejection letters; other business as necessary.
We copied and addressed the acceptance letters and the rejection letters.
We discussed plans for THE PHOTO SHOW:
The display will be held Memorial Day weekend. We hope to use the Tea House as a gallery (Joe Baker will ask for permission).
The event has been announced in the Monterey News. Further stories will follow.
We decided to advertise in the Monterey News, and to do posters to place in The Snap Shop, Vermont Photo, and other locations where photographers will see them.
Julie Shapiro will organize a prospectus, perhaps in time for our next meeting. We will have the prospectus available as a PDF on the Monterey website, copies will be available at the General Store, the Library, and Town Hall.
We discussed prizes, but came to no conclusion yet. Should there be prizes at all? Bragging rights only? Or Gift Certificates from Monterey businesses? Cash awards (if so, whence would the money come)?
Should we organize the contest into categories? If so, what might they be? Should it be a contest, or just a display? We will discuss prizes with the Select Board.
We discussed judging. Should we ask professional photographers to judge? If so, should we offer them an honorarium? (Again, whence will the money come?)
