Minutes of Monterey Cultural Council Meeting

Members Present: Joe Baker, Joel Schick, Julie Shapiro, Maureen Banner, Dianna Downing, Susan Johnson, Neil McGinnis
Purpose of Meeting: non-grants cycle business meeting, and other business as necessary
Discussion: Follow-up discussion of Astronomy event; all were pleased at how it went – more than 60 people attended. Payment for that event will zero out the Town allocated funds for this fiscal year, and dip slightly into the remaining Cultural Council account. We have been allocated $2500 for the next fiscal year.
Sept 2 Shindig: Discussed responsibilities and chores to be done. All assigned. Joel and Dianna to see to publicity, article for Monterey News, press releases, etc. Joel to organize musicians to play during the Community Potluck supper (6:00 – 7:00), Joe to organize the contradance band and provide the PA system. Susan to rent portapotty, Neil to see to parking signs, Julie to organize beverages from Gen Store. Possible Kids’ Chorus? Julie
We discussed the Photo Show request by the Select Board, and agreed that it is a good idea, but that we did not want to proceed with it without knowing that the Selectboard is truly interested. Joe will speak to the Select Board.
New member to replace Debbie Mielke, whose term of office is up: Kathryn Roberts, Dianne Boyd. Maureen will ask Kathryn.
Other ideas discussed: (Julie) Cartoonfest, WordStreet
Future programs to host: drawing workshop, speaker series, poetry reading
Next meeting: July 12, 4 pm
