Minutes of Monterey Cultural Council Meeting

Members Present: Joe Baker, Joel Schick, Julie Shapiro, Maureen Banner, Debra Mielke
Purpose of Meeting: non-grants cycle business meeting, and other business as necessary
Discussion: Follow-up discussion of Phil Buck event; all were pleased at how it went.
We briefly discussed the remaining series of events for the winter:
February 17, pastel workshop;
March 10, Hootenanny;
April 8, Music and dance of Bali (Thunder Bay).
Joel has made bookmark-calendars for these events; Dianna to do publicity. Registration about full for pastel workshop, Joe to spread the word to other artists and to Gould Farm to see if others will fill the remaining spots. Joel has made Hoot posters, which we will put up, and spread the word to musicians in particular. Refreshments, after much discussion we decided to try the $50 per event figure to see how it works out. All agreed we do not want to have to provide items out of our own pockets any more.
We discussed the Photo Show request by the Select Board, and agreed that it is a good idea, and that we would plan to hold it over Labor Day weekend concurrent with our Shindig and with the Community Center tag sale. We decided on holding one more event in the spring or early summer, to be another community astronomy evening. Joe will contact astronomers.
We calculated our costs for producing events in the last year and decided on a figure for next year’s budget request, due 2/14. We filled out the form and turned it in at the conclusion of the meeting.
We will hold another meeting in late March or early April to plan the Shindig, astronomy night, etc. Date to be determined.
