Minutes of Monterey Cultural Council Meeting
Monterey Town Hall
Oct 26, 2005
Members Present: Joe Baker, Susan Johnson, Neil McGinnis, Dianna Downing, Joel Schick, Julie Shapiro, Maureen Banner, Debra Mielke
Purpose of Meeting: grants cycle business meeting, and other business as necessary
We discussed a budget ceiling for the grant total that we would award, and agreed on $3,000, of which $2,500 will come from the state and the other $500 will be taken out of our MCC account. The expense totals for “How’s It Made?” are about $1100, leaving about $1400 in our town appropriation.
We went through all 28 applications that we received this year for the upcoming grants cycle. We each read all the applications and the additional materials that were included. Going through the list of applications, we discussed the attributes of each and made preliminary decisions about whether to fund and if so how much. 4 applications were deemed to require further phone calls, which Joe agreed to do.
We discussed the Roy Blount, Jr. reading which we held at the Monterey Church on Sat Oct 15. Dianna did a magnificent job organizing it. The bill for the refreshments had come in, for $125, and we discussed our policy on spending for refreshments for future events. While we did not agree on a specific money limit, we did agree on the policy of limiting expenditures for refreshments to about $50 or $60 per event, to be decided at a later date. All such funds are to come from the town allocation.
We set the next meeting for Wed, Nov 16 at 3:30 to finalize the grants decisions.
