Minutes of Monterey Cultural Council Meeting
Monterey Town Hall
Aug 15, 2005
Members Present: Lois Ryder, Joe Baker, Susan Johnson, Neil McGinnis, Dianna Downing, Joel Schick, Julie Shapiro
Purpose of Meeting: non-grants cycle business meeting; develop plans for Labor Day Event (How's It Made? 2005)
Lois Ryder reminded the committee that her term of office expires 10/1/05 and that she is looking for a replacement as Chair. Joel and Susan are considering accepting positions as co-chairs.
We discussed the plans for How's It Made?, September 3. Artists have been sent info letters and batches of postcards. The musicians are all scheduled: John Sellew and Tom Ingersoll (10:30-11:30), Wicker’s Creek (12:00-1:00) and Jug’lar Vein (1:30-2:30). Each musician will receive an honorarium of $50, up to a maximum of $150 per act. Dianna has mailed press releases and has bought an ad space in Artful Mind. She will be placing Shopper’s Guide ads as well. Food: Debbie in charge of lining up vendors, which are Farm Country Soups, Monterey General Store for sandwiches, etc, Gould Farm for salads, etc, and Greenhaven Farm (Steve & Sally Pullen) for pies. Joel designed a logo and a poster, which we distributed among ourselves for posting around the area. Joe has assembled the program book using the logo
on the front, and will take it to Kwik Print for printing. At this point we appear to be within our budget of $1600-2000. We will meet on Friday Sep 2 at 5:00 at the Pavilion to set up the booths and the layout, then be on hand by 8 am on Sat Sep 3 for welcoming the artists and assisting them in setting up. The show will run 10 – 3.
The summer Hoot project has been shelved for this year, as Joel and Joe are both too busy.
A fall event has been arranged: Roy Blount, Jr. will do a reading at the Monterey Church on Sat Oct 15. Dianna is organizing the event.
