Conservation Commission Minutes 9/16/14
CONSERVATION COMMISSION
Town of Monterey, Massachusetts

MEETING DATE: 9/16/14
Present: Timothy Lovett, David Dempsey, Christopher Blair, Pat Edelstein and Dennis Lynch
The meeting convened at 6:00p.m.

Camp – RDA – 72 Tyringham Rd – jack cottage, deck and boardwalks to level state, infill existing land piers, remove & replace 3 support posts and repair or replace sewage pipe (D. Dempsey is the project manager)
This hearing was opened on 9/8/14 but do to a lack of a quorum was continued to tonight.  John Camp, the owner presented the project details to the Commission.  The project was approved as a N2.

For Discussion:
1.  Mail was reviewed.
2.  Minutes from 8/12 & 9/8/14 were approved as written.
3.  Discussion ensued about holding an educational presentation about how to positively work in the buffer zone.  It was suggested by Pat and Dennis that homeowner’s around the lake be invited to a project that will be occurring soon in Monterey.  There were concerns about whether or not the homeowner would want people on their land.  Chris suggested that Pat and Dennis take pictures and provide a narrative which could be put on our website for a tutorial.
4.  There will be an in depth discussion at next month’s meeting with members of the Friends of Lake Garfield and Ken Wagner to discuss the milfoil issue in Lake Garfield.
5.  Next meeting is Tuesday, October 14th at 6pm.
6.  Chris proposed that the Conservation Commission join the Friends of Lake Garfield, everyone unanimously agreed and will pay the $100 Very Special Friends due.  Pat Edelstein abstained due to a conflict of interest.  It was also suggested that some of the $25,000 money the Commission received from a fine a few years back could be used toward helping to maintain Lake Garfield.
7.  Education of the SMA and WPA regulations for new homeowners was discussed and what the proper medium would be for this.  The general consensus seemed to be that having a regular article in the Monterey News would be the best option.

Meeting adjourned at 7:30pm
