CONSERVATION COMMISSION
Town of Monterey, Massachusetts

Present: Richard Andrus, Christopher Blair and Betty Pixley
The meeting convened at 6:20p.m.
Hume – 73 Chestnut Hill Rd – NOI – seven foot drawdown of Stedman Pond for dam repairs & improvements and SMA NOI – SMA13-02 (B. Pixley is the project manager)
This hearing has been continued to the November 12, 2013 meeting.
Quisenberry – 30 Bidwell Rd – RDA - to remove an existing timber dock and replace with a cast-in-place concrete dock structure (T. Lovett is the project manager)
David Quisenberry was present to review the project. David plans to replace the timber crib with concrete to prevent rotting. This caused some concern for the Commission. He provided plans and pictures to support his presentation. The project was approved as submitted as a N2. The Commission requested an updated set of drawings showing sleeves, sizes, quantities and locations.
Ryan – 136 Tyringham Rd – RDA – replace roof, construct a storage shed, replace windows, install fencing and construct poultry houses (C. Blair is the project manager)
Thomas Ryan was present to review the project details which is located near a brook that feeds into Lake Garfield. The project was approved as a N2.
Adams/Walker 8 Lakeside Ave – RDA and SMA NOI 14-01 – replace roof, construct a storage shed, replace windows, install fencing and construct poultry houses (R. Andrus is the project manager)
The hearing was opened and continued to the November 12, 2013 meeting due to a lack of a quorum (Chris Blair had to recuse himself).
Hartman – 37 Stevens Lake – RDA - to shift & widen the existing driveway, replace existing stone landing and steps, install a stone wall and retaining wall, repair failing channel walls as needed, expand stream bed, remove and reset northernmost bridges and stepping stones and install a water feature , expand road, install electric and water lines to the barn, create a parking area, demo existing patio and boulder/stone walls and install new stone patios and steps, boulder and stone retaining walls and a pergola (B. Pixley is the project
manager)
Walter Cudnohufsky and Kirsten Berringer, representatives for the Hartman’s were present to review the project details. Walter stated that there are a few more items that were left out of the RDA to be added to the project. An existing culvert on the common roadway will need to be replaced which wasn’t included in the RDA. Also not included in the RDA is that the roof will be repaired and the contractor would like to have a dumpster on the premise during that part of the project. The Commission approved the use of a dumpster. The project is expected to start in the spring. The Commission didn’t have any issues with the project as proposed but wanted to first see the analysis of the culvert that needs to be replaced before approving it and issuing a DA. The
hearing will be continued until the November meeting.
Vayer – 190 Beartown Mtn Rd – NOI – to construct a 24’ x 24’ garage, re-route the existing driveway, remove an existing deck, construct a larger deck and construct a terrace (D. Dempsey is the project manager)
Rob Akroyd of Greylock Design Associates was present to review the project details. Rob stated that the project proposed is for a 24’ x 24’ 2 car garage however the applicant may opt to go with a smaller garage once they get started. The Commission approved the project as submitted and issued the Order of Conditions.

2. Minutes from 9/10/13 were approved as written.
3. Chris updated the Commission on his meeting with the Select Board regarding the drawdown of Lake Garfield.
