Open the Meeting: The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.
OLD/NEW BUSINESS
W&S Personnel ~ The Commission discussed that this indeed was the time to bring in a permanent additional employee for the MW&S Dept. which would enable our Department begin attacking the 8 years of records backlog that has accumulated, reduce the physical workload of the Superintendent to allow him additional time to skillfully manage the planning and directing of all our operations and projects. The additional laborer would protect the integrity and wellbeing of our employees who should not be working in traffic or at pump stations by themselves, it isn’t safe, they must be in pairs, and would also allow our existing employees to take their allotted vacation time without jeopardizing the safety of the remaining workers and allow essential work to continue uninterrupted. Low
priority issues that have been neglected need to be addressed before they become high priority issues that are much more expensive to handle later, hydrant maintenance, flushing program, water & sewer easement clearing and general maintenance. The Department would also be more proactive with our aging service replacements. It is much cheaper to replace a service in the street before it starts leaking.
The Commission would like to request a meeting with the Selectmen to discussing staffing at the W&S Dept.
NEXT MEETING: The next meeting has been set for Wednesday, March 14, 2012 and March 21, 2012
ADJOURN: A motion was made by Doug to adjourn at 7:45p.m. Motion seconded by Joe. Motion passed unanimously.
